Why "My Tribute to Mom"? |
Floris June Wishmeyer |
What do you give someone who has just about everything in the
world she wants? That was my dilemma.
I always send Mom flowers on "occasions," because they delight her (which
delights ME!) and because I just don't see the point in waiting until she's gone
to send flowers. Better she should enjoy them now while she's alive.
There's really not much in the way of "things" I could think of
to give Mom. Yup.... I was fresh out of ideas. But I know she has always loved
the song "My Mom," and it really does express how I feel about her. The internet
offers me a way to sing the song to her and allow her to listen and watch it
over and over again. (Which, knowing Mom, she will!)
Things just kind of grew from there, with me deciding that a
brief bio. of Mom should be available for her many friends to enjoy. Next, a few
pictures seemed like a good idea. And so "My Tribute to Mom" evolved and will
continue to evolve as we add to it.
This website is a tribute to Mom, made even better (for me at
least) that I can share my feelings about Mom with the rest of the world.
My Mother's Daughter
When Mom was 36, she thought she was going through "the change." When
her stomach got bigger, she thought perhaps she had a tumor. Imagine her
surprise when she found out she was "with child"! After all, my brother Donnie
was already 17 years old with no other children in between.
When friends found out that Mom was PG, they would ask "What do you want?"
(meaning boy or girl), and Mom would say "She's going to be a girl." This was
before ultrasound, so Mom didn't have a medical test to back up her belief.
These same folks would often say, "Now, Flo, you should just say that you want a
healthy baby." Mom would say "I do want a healthy baby. She's going to be
a healthy baby girl." Mom was just certain I was a girl. I'm sure glad we got
off to a good start with each other by me not letting her down on that score!
As you'll read in Mom's bio. and "Odes
to Mom," we have always been close. Oh, we've had a few rough patches where
we didn't see eye to eye, but the deep love has always been there.
I think my Mom is amazing and I sure hope from this website that
she can tell this is so just in case she doesn't know already.
Me Today
This site isn't about me, but since I know Mom considers me one of
her biggest accomplishments, I also know she'd want me to mention a few words
about how I turned out. Here's the "short course."
I am a physician, the Naturopathic Medical Doctor (N.M.D.)
variety and have been in practice for 20 years. You can learn more about this if
you're interested at
www.DrMyattsWellnessClub.com .
I am happily married to a wonderful man, my "soul mate" Mark
Ziemann, who is a Registered Nurse and has been so for 26 years. His last name,
pronounced "Z-Man," is what I have always called him since our first date. His
patients know him as "Nurse Mark."
We were married 6 years ago, met in December just like Mom and
Dad with a courtship of the same short duration --- that ol' "love at first
sight" thing. We were married in a small but beautiful ceremony in Las Vegas
with my Mom and Dad and Z's Mom and Dad there with us, a real blessing if there
ever was one!
Ray and Flo Wishmeyer, Dana Myatt (Mrs. Ziemann)
and Mark Ziemann, Marilyn and Ken Ziemann - April 2, 2003. So glad Mom and Dad
could "stand up" with me on this happy day.
Z-Man and I live in Northern Arizona, we practice telemedicine
world-wide from our home or R.V. and we own a nutritional supplement company,
The Wellness Club.
I feel truly blessed to have my wonderful Mom (and Dad!) still alive and well
and "only" a 6-hour drive away in Yuma, Arizona.
If I can touch half as many lives in a positive way as Mom has, I will
have lived a very good life indeed. She's My Madonna, My Mom.
